Discover how the strategic use of website silo structure, empowered by AI, can revolutionize your website’s SEO and user experience.

Welcome to the insightful world of website silo structure, a pivotal SEO strategy that’s crucial for enhancing your website’s and content’s search engine visibility.

A website silo structure isn’t just about organizing content; it’s about creating a coherent, keyword-focused framework that search engines love. And with AI’s touch, this strategy evolves into a powerhouse for SEO success.

I’m all about building great websites for my clients and driving massive traffic to them.

That’s all great, but if you haven’t thought about how you want to organize your content you’re missing a big opportunity to rank your site higher with the search engines and provide a great experience for your visitors.

Key Elements of a Website Silo

In the context of website silo structure, think of your website as a well-organized library. Each ‘silo’ represents a category of content, meticulously organized and interlinked to enhance both user experience and SEO.

Today it is so easy for you to use AI tools to analyze and optimize your silos for maximum search engine impact.

Understanding What a Website Silo Structure is

At its core, your website silo structure is about strategically organizing your content.

If I could pick one word to describe a website silo that would be organization.

You’ll want to cluster your website’s content around targeted keywords, enhancing the thematic relevance of each silo.

AI-driven tools can make this so easy for your website silo process, ensuring your website silo structure aligns perfectly with current SEO trends.

Benefits of a Well-Organized Website Silo Structure

A robust website silo structure offers numerous benefits for your visitors.

It simplifies navigation, reduces bounce rates, and clarifies your site’s focus on search engines, thereby improving keyword relevancy.

Think organization, better customer experience, and improved SEO rankings when you hear the word website silo. Organization and improved user experience are probably two of the biggest benefits I can think of when creating a website silo.

When you have those two things in order…you’ll get more points from Google because your visitors will naturally stay on your website and consume more of your content.

Getting Started with Website Silo Structure

Simply put, a website silo is about creating strong keyword-related themes on your website to improve the relevancy of your site in the eyes of the search engines.

And the best way to achieve this is by organizing your content

You want to organize your website content around your keywords and make sure you link your content to the page you want to rank for. What you want to do is to make sure that when you plan your site you organize your pages around the page you want to rank for.

Most often you want to make sure you rank highly for your home page so you’ll want links to and from that page from other pages on your site.

To implement an effective website silo structure, you’ll want to grab a piece of paper and begin by categorizing your main content areas.

Start by writing down the categories you have on your website…

This foundational step is crucial for both your visitor experience and SEO. Incorporating

AI in this phase helps in identifying content gaps and optimizing the overall structure for better search engine performance.

Recommended Tool: Google Analytics: Utilize its AI insights to identify pages with low engagement, high bounce rates, or declining traffic.

Recommended Tool: Google Ads Keyword Planner: Useful for identifying high-volume keywords in your niche that you might not be targeting yet.

Recommended Tool: ChatGPT: Useful for taking your keyword ideas and use it to generate a list of topics

Improving Your Visitor Experience with Website Silo Structure

A well-planned website silo structure makes it easier for your visitors to find relevant information, significantly enhancing the user experience.

AI can take this a step further by providing personalized content recommendations, ensuring that each visitor’s journey through your website is engaging and relevant.

Recommended Tool: ChatGPT: Use it to come up with content ideas for your customer journey based on the keyword research you’ve done.

Practical Steps to Build Your Website Silo Structure

Start building your website silo structure with a clear, organized plan.

Utilize tools like spreadsheets and templates to map out your content.

AI tools are invaluable here, offering insights into content performance and guiding your silo structuring efforts.

Recommended Tool: Google Analytics

Advanced Strategies and Tools for Website Silo Structure

Embrace AI for predictive SEO analysis and to stay ahead of evolving trends.

Regularly update your content and refine your website silo structure with AI-driven insights, ensuring your website remains both relevant and authoritative.

Recommended Tool: Google Analytics

Creating a structure and organizing your content helps to:

#1: Give your website visitors a clear path of where to go next on your site, lowering your bounce rate

#2: Gives the search engines have a very clear idea of what your site is about.

#3: Improves your keyword relevancy for the keywords you are targeting.

The bottom line is that Organization Matters

Implementing a website silo structure is a game-changer for your SEO strategy. It’s not just about organizing content; it’s about creating a seamless, intuitive user experience.

I encourage you to apply these strategies and share your success stories.

Search engines are more likely to rank your site higher for your keyword when the content is organized. This is why I love to create resource pages for clients on topics we know their audience is searching for.

Let’s use Infidelity as an topic example from a client of mine who is a Marriage Therapist. Here’s how we walked through the process of building his resource page

#1: We researched and found hot topics for our client who then wrote a series of articles on the subject.

#2: Then we created a resource page on the topic and linked all of the articles to and from that page.

#3: In the eyes of the visitor to the site we did them a big favor by giving them one resource page to find out everything they would need to know about the subject and

#4: In the eyes of the search engines, the client looks like an authority on the subject because his content is neatly organized.

A well-executed website silo structure improves your visitor’s experience

When you group related content you provide a better experience for your visitor.

Doing this makes it easier for them to find a lot of information at their fingertips without having to search or click many times to get at it. By doing this you are more likely to reduce your bounce rate which is the number of visitors that leave your site after only viewing a single page.

The key is to make it easy for people to find what they are looking for.

Make sure you keep the content links related to the category they are nested under and resist cross-linking categories unless it makes sense. Don’t cross-link just to build links.

Be methodical and logical, think about how you can help improve your audience’s experience and you can’t go wrong.

I was there too until I learned some simple SEO basics and I can now optimize my content on my blog in 5 minutes or less…with the help of AI – a game-changer for getting that organic traffic to my content…something I know we all crave!

Let’s chat about SEO – you know, Search Engine Optimization, you don’t need to be an expert and understanding SEO basics can make a big difference in getting more organic traffic.

It’s kind of a big deal in the online world. Think of SEO like a spotlight for your content.

Without it, you’re just another hidden treasure in the vast internet ocean, no matter how awesome your content is. It’s like having a secret recipe for the world’s best chocolate cake but never sharing it – what’s the point if no one gets to taste it, right?

Now, let’s talk numbers, but not the snooze-fest kind.

Did you know that over half the traffic to websites comes from organic search? Yep, BrightEdge Research says it’s 53%, to be exact.

That’s more than what paid ads and social media can pull in combined.

And here’s a kicker from HubSpot: 60% of marketing pros say that the leads they get from SEO efforts are top-notch, better than any other marketing tricks up their sleeves.

So, we’re not just talking about getting more eyeballs on your site; we’re talking about getting the right ones.

But hey, SEO isn’t just about playing the numbers game. It’s also about trust and street cred online. When your site pops up on the first page of Google, people take notice.

It’s like being the cool kid in school; everyone wants to hang out with you. That’s the kind of reputation and authority you build with solid SEO.

So, whether you’re a business owner, a blogger, or just someone with a message to share, remember: that SEO is your best friend in the digital world. It’s the key to getting seen, getting trusted, and getting ahead.

Now, let me tell you a story about Janet, a business coach who learned all this the hard way…

Janet, a dedicated business coach, found herself in a common predicament. Despite her insightful content and valuable advice, her blog remained a hidden gem, unseen by her potential audience. Frustrated with the lack of organic traffic and reluctant to rely solely on paid ads, Janet embarked on a transformative journey with SEO and AI.

The Awakening: Realizing the Power of SEO Basics

Janet’s journey began with an epiphany. She realized that her content, no matter how valuable, needed the wings of SEO to fly towards her audience. She decided to dedicate just 5 minutes per piece of content on her blog to apply SEO basics, a small investment of time for potentially significant returns.

Step 1: The First Step – Embracing AI in Writing

Janet started by revisiting her writing process. She enlisted the help of AI tools like ChatGPT to refine her content. These tools helped her brainstorm ideas, structure her content effectively, and ensure that her writing was engaging and reader-friendly. This is the first step to SEO basics.

The best part?

This took less time than she anticipated…only minutes and the right prompts took her lack luster content from boring to attracting and engaging her audience.

Step 2: The Keyword Revelation – AI-Powered Insights

The next step that Janet needed when mastering SEO basics was selecting the right keywords.

Janet used AI-driven keyword research tools to uncover long-tail keywords that had good search and low competition.

This step gave Janet insights into what her target audience was searching for, allowing her to focus on keywords that were relevant yet not overly competitive.

Step 3: Seamlessly Integrating Keywords

With her keywords identified, Janet used ChatGPT to scan her content and integrate them naturally.

In a matter of minutes, ChatGPT cranked out an updated piece of content with the best placements, ensuring the keywords flowed seamlessly with her content, enhancing readability while boosting SEO.

Step 4: Crafting Captivating Meta Descriptions

Janet then turned her attention to meta descriptions as part of her SEO Basics strategy.

ChatGPT prompts helped her craft concise, compelling summaries that included her chosen keywords. These meta descriptions were crucial in enticing readers to click through from search results.

Step 5: Perfecting the Permalink

Many of you may not even consider permalinks as part of SEO basics and this is one critical step…so to get her her permalinks, Janet sought simplicity and clarity as you should too.

ChatGPT helped her create short, keyword-rich URLs, making her posts more accessible to both readers and search engines.

Step 6: Optimizing Images for a Visual Edge

Janet also optimized her images as part of her SEO basics with AI’s assistance.

She had ChatGPT suggest relevant images and helped her add SEO-friendly alt text, ensuring her posts were visually appealing and more discoverable.

Step 7: The Final Touch – AI-Assisted Review

Finally, Janet reviewed her posts with AI, which analyzed her content for SEO effectiveness.

This process provided feedback and suggestions for improvement, ensuring every piece of content was fully optimized.

The Transformation: A Surge in Organic Traffic

After applying these AI-enhanced SEO basics strategies, Janet witnessed a remarkable change. Her content began to attract more organic traffic, her posts climbed the search engine rankings, and her audience grew without the need for paid advertising.

Janet had successfully harnessed the power of SEO and AI, transforming her content into a beacon for potential clients.

Janet’s story is an illustration that shows the power of combining human insight with AI efficiency.

By spending just a few extra minutes on each piece of her content and leveraging AI tools, Janet quickly and easily made improvements to her content and as a result, her content started reaching and engaging the audience she truly deserved.

Now with SEO and AI, so much easier to create content and optimize it FAST. For Janet, and myself too, embracing these changes has been nothing short of exciting and transformative.

By integrating AI into her SEO basics strategy, Janet not only saved time but also reached a higher level of engagement with her audience.

The key takeaway?

Don’t let your valuable content get lost in the digital shuffle. Or do you cringe at the thought of using google keyword planner just like I used to?

Do you ask yourself why does it really have to be complicated or hard?

Give me 15 minutes of your time and I’ll simplify it for you.

Yes that’s right.

It’s definitely worth your time to invest 15 minutes, let me show you why. I did a little experiment this week because I knew I was writing this post and I wanted a fresh new example to show you. Here’s a peek at my traffic this week:

I’ve been averaging only about 35 views a day on average and spiking up higher when I did a post. However I was looking for a bigger more sustainable longer term hit of traffic making sure I get my best content out there with search terms people are really looking for.

When I did this it immediately doubled my traffic.

And I’ve seen this traffic increase for 2 days in a row and it shows no signs of slowing down. And the post I experimented with jumped up into the #1 most popular post on my site.

You can also increase website traffic with this simple SEO strategy.

Let’s walk through simple step by step process so you can get similar results using on page SEO

I highly recommend that you have these 3 things in place before you get started:

SEO by Yoast Plugin – you can find it here. I write about it in 7 Timeless SEO Strategies in the bonus tip at the end of the article

A Gmail account so you can log into the Google Keyword Planner

301 Redirect plugin so you can redirect the old permalink to the updated permalink and not have any broken links – you can find a good one here:

Okay so once you have both of those in place let’s dive into the steps…

7 Steps to Increase Website Traffic with A Simple On Page SEO Strategy

You can use this strategy with all of your content and I suggest that you start with your most popular content first

Step 1: Locate your most popular content

You can use this strategy with all of your content and I suggest that you start with your most popular content first because you’ll get the best results doing it this way.

Go into your google analytics account and click on Behavior and then on Site Content then All Pages.

Then you’ll want to change the date range to 90 days like this: Then look below at your top performing pages and make a list of them. Pick the top performing post and start there. Keep a list of other posts that you’ll want to work on later.

Step 2: Go to the Google Keyword Planner

Open the keyword planner and copy in the url of your post and it will analyze it and come up with a list of suggested keywords for you.

Step 3: Strategize Your Keywords

Here’s the important part…you want to look for keywords for you page that have between 300 and 700 searches a month. And preferably ones that are not high competition either.

300- 700 with medium or low competition will work best for your purposes.

If you don’t find one that fits, use the suggested keywords and start drilling down from there using the keyword planner.

The point is to just get this done and don’t obsess over the perfect keyword!

Step 4: Update your content with your keywords

Go in and change the following:

a. Update your permalink with the new keyword

b. Add it to your title

c. Add it into your content preferably in the first few sentences, in a subtitle and at the end of your blog post. Remember you don’t want to stuff keywords, rather add them in where they fit naturally.

d. Change the alt text of your featured image to include you new keyword.

Step 5: Set up your redirect

If you have linked to the content from other places on your website or on social media you’ll want to use the 301 redirect plugin to set up your redirect. This is simple to do…

Step 6. Publish your updated content

If your content is older and you’ve updated it, I like to add this at the top of it: Last Updated On: (add the date you updated). This lets readers know you have updated the content recently and that it is worthwhile for them to read it.

Step 7. Promote your content out on Social Media

At the very least you’ll want to promote your new content out on Google Plus. This will get the search engines crawling your site and they will put your google + post in one of the top positions right away for the keyword.

When I did mine this week, it only took a few minutes for my google + post to get into the #2 place for my keywords:

To recap the process:

Before you get started get these 3 things in place if you don’t have them already:

Google account

SEO by Yoast Plugin

301 Redirect Plugin

7 Step Recap to Increase Website Traffic With This Simple SEO Strategy

Locate Your Most Popular Content

Go to the Google Keyword Planner

Strategize Your Keywords

Update Your Content With Your Keywords

Set Up Your Redirect

Publish Your Content

Promote Your Content Out on Social Media

It only takes 15 minutes tops!

Don’t let yourself get obsessed with picking exactly the right keyword. Find one that meets the criteria and works with your post and go with it.

off any auto posting you have set up on your blog…

This step is key to getting more eyeballs on your content and ensuring that you have high quality content going out on your social media platforms when you want it and how you want it.

Finding out when you get the most traffic to your blog is as easy as heading over to your google Monday-Thursday.

I personally find it too stressful to start out the week getting a post out so I set mine up for Tuesdays and Thursdays.

<span want to get out of the habit of posting only once out on social media!

Schedule time on your calendar a few days later to go and share again so you can reach a whole new I like to set a timer and spend no more than 5- 10 minutes browsing per image at the most!

You can get more writing tips here that will help you during this part of the process – How to Become a More Productive Writer: 7 draft posts

Batch in 1-2 posts a month to use when you are on vacation or really need a break from blogging, you’ll be glad you did!

I break it down for you in this article where I cover the 5 steps to making effective use of your content creation time.

Step 4: Set up Your Content

Set up your post on your blog the day before.

Doing this in advance reduces the stress of having to write, post, and promote your content all in one sitting.

I don’t know about you but I want to enjoy this process and write great content for my tribe. From my experience and that of my clients, I know that having a stress-free method to plan and organize blog posts really helps!

Step 5: Perform On-Page SEO

You want to get the most traffic for your efforts, right?

Optimizing my blog post for keywords is an essential part of how I plan and organize blog posts. It should only take you 10-15 minutes and will pay off with organic traffic to your site.

I could write the entire process out for you here, but that wouldn’t be helpful enough

Instead, I’ve included the On-Page SEO Checklist that will take you through the entire process in your Blog Post Productivity Workbook Download.

Using the SEO checklist will not only really cut your time spent planning and organizing blogs, but it will also help you get more organic traffic.

Step 6: Post On High Traffic Days

This is key to getting more eyeballs on your content.

Finding out when you get the most traffic to your blog is as easy as heading over to your google analytics account and seeing when your traffic is at it highest during the week.

If you don’t know, its a safe bet that the highest traffic days are usually Monday-Thursday.

I find it too stressful to start out the week getting a post out so I set mine up for Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Step 7: Promote Your Post

Use your social sharing buttons to promote your post out on social media after it has been published.

You want to use these buttons instead of auto-posting to your site for a couple of reasons

#1 It counts as a social sharing signal to google.

#2 You have more control over the content you share on your platforms

Then schedule time on your calendar a few days later to go and share again so you can reach a whole new audience with your content.

For Twitter, I like to use my tweet this content on my blog post to promote it more than twice so schedule time for that over the next 3-4 days, and you’ll be covered.

Then set up your evergreen content to be continually rotated out on social media.

Tools I use:

Social Oomph for rotating content

Tweet This Plugin for WordPress

Shareaholic Plugin for Social Sharing

* Each of these tools are included in the Blog Post Productivity Workbook Download. I really encourage you to grab the workbook and use it to start planning and organizing your blog posts.

Back over to you…How do You plan and organize blog posts?

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-13513" important SEO Steps.

If you haven’t already set up your google analytics account you’ll need to do that first here: https://analytics.google.com

Head on over to Google search console here: <a your blog needs.

Your Info

In this section, you’ll enter the primary information about your blog.

You’ll enter the name of your website

Then you can choose whether your site is a person or a company and then enter the name associated with what selection you’ll make.

Save your settings

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://kristenpoborsky.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/Yoast-Your-Info-Tab.png" alt="Yoast Your Info Tab" width="565" Webmaster tools

Then start by clicking on the Google Search Console link

Follow the directions

Then click save

***Note that when you go through the verification process you will not need to add a code in here….

Add Bing And Yandex:

Following the same steps, as you did for google search, you’ll want to add Bing and Yandex for more visibility.

Just click on the Bing or Yandex link and then follow the directions to either create an account or sign in and then add the verification code.

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://kristenpoborsky.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/Bing-and-yandex-set-up.png" alt="Bing and yandex style="font-weight: 400;">Then you’ll want to set up all of the social media profiles I’ve pointed out in the screenshot below.

Click save

Step 5: Submit Your Site

Let’s make sure your sitemap is set up enabled and then submit it to the search engines.

However, if you do not have content set up on your site, hold off on this step until later. You’ll want to make sure the main pages are set up with content and at least 2-3 blog posts written and published.

Enable XML site maps on your blog:

From the Yoast, click on XML site maps. Then make sure the button is turned to enabled, then save your changes

Submit your site to Google Search Console

Now you are all ready to submit… all you have to do is go back to the Google Search Console account

Using the sidebar menu inside your site property management dashboard, go to Crawl > Sitemaps.

Next, click on the Add Test/ Sitemap button and add your sitemap URL.

Add is “sitemap_index.xml” to the form – see screenshot below

Click the Submit Button

Wait a few minutes and then refresh the page.

You should then see the “sitemap_index.xml” file shown.

Periodically you will want to log into your Search console and come back to this page to see how many pages and images Google has indexed from your site.

Index Your Site:

Stay here in the Search Console and go to the Crawl > Fetch as Google section.

Submit your entire site for indexing

Click the Fetch and Render button and then wait for Google to process your submission. Once they are done, you will see a “Request Indexing” button.

Click and wait for it to fetch….

After you click fetch and render a verification box will open up

Check off I am not Robot

Select search this URL and its direct links

Then go

After it is completed you’ll see your request on your console.

A final note on submitting your site for indexing…

Do not request indexing over and over…a good rule of thumb is to do it periodically and after you have new content added to your site.

The great feature of the Yoast plugin is that it takes care of notifying the search engines when you have new posts or content on your site!

It used to be that you could get away with just plopping a keyword on your blog post and expect to increase blog traffic right away.

Okay maybe that is oversimplifying things, but being able to increase blog traffic has become more difficult for the average blogger.

The breakdown happens between the traffic you thought you were creating your content for and the traffic you are getting…

Yes, that’s right – its a simple disconnect between the two.

You’ll want to rework your poor performing content on your site to increase your blog traffic

I made a concerted effort to do just this myself about 30 days ago, and my blog traffic has increased daily.

You might not be impressed with my total progression because you’ve heard claims from other people that they got hundreds of thousands of page views on their blogs.

However, I am an average person just like you. I don’t blog every day or have an army of people working on my content marketing for me.

For the average person going for a 5% blog traffic increase is considered commendable and do-able! My blog traffic doubled from December to January because of this SEO tip.

This month, the aim is to have more than a 5% increase. Did you know that my traffic has dramatically increased in the past few days? I may be surprised at the end of the month as my organic searches will be way up, thanks to this SEO tip.

Here’s the step by step process to increase blog traffic (SEO Tip)

This is so simple. A beginner can and should do this with their underperforming content to get an increase in your blog traffic.

Remember to be patient, increases in web traffic doesn’t happen overnight…it takes time to build.

Step 1: Locate your underperforming content

Log into your google analytics account and to the following to review your content

Click on Behavior

Click on Site content.

Then click on All Pages – from there you’ll be able to find your low to mid performing content by scrolling through the pages

Make a list using a spreadsheet so you can keep track of your research and next action steps

Take a look at your posts and ask yourself these simple questions:

Is my content serving the readers who click and come to my blog?

Based on this intent, is my metadata copy getting them to click?

Does my content give them the information my readers need to solve a problem they are having

Step 2: Use the search console

Okay, let’s head over to the search console in google analytics and see what is going on with your content:

Click on Acquisition

Click on search console

Then on landing pages

Get a better read on what’s happening, change your date range to at least 60+ days.

Look at these numbers to get a handle on where you can improve your copy and increase your blog traffic

Impressions – this is the number of times your post appeared on a search engine results page, and how many times it was viewed.

Clicks – this is the number of times that a reader clicked on your blog post from that search and came to your blog to read it.

Average position – this shows you where your post ranks on google for your keyword. The aim is to get them close to #1 but avoid focus too much on this.

CTR – this means click-through rate which is the number of clicks per impressions

Clicks/Impressions * 100

You’ll want to shoot for a 50% click-through rate.

Go through your content that you gathered in the first part of the exercise and gather the information items 1-4 here:

Impressions

Clicks

Average Position

CTR

Step 3: Improve your content

This is a lot of valuable information that you can use to improve your organic traffic…so how do you make sense of it and apply it to your content?

Another SEO Tip: Simple content fixes to help increase blog traffic

Work on your title and meta description – the description they see in the search results isn’t compelling. Most people don’t even address this – they just let their SEO plugin grab the content from their blog.

Go into your post and look at your title and meta description. I like to look a the search results for my keyword and see what the competition is doing – especially the paid ads for the keyword and use that to improve my copy.

Add links to improve your content, to give it a little more SEO juice.

Link to other content that may be of benefit to your reader and also link from that content back to the article you’re working on.

Make your post longer and more in depth, find a video out on YouTube (it doesn’t have to be yours!) and embed it into your post.

Make sure you are continually re-sharing your content out on social media platforms – don’t share it just once.

Use a tool like Social Oomph to schedule your content out on social media and keep it continually rotating.

Add a call to action to share inside of your content.

I like Click to Tweet – it’s super simple to set up and even more effective when you embed this simple call to action inside of your post, Google rewards for social sharing so you want to set this up for your readers to do it easily.

I know this process may seem difficult at first but in the long run, it is well worth the effort! Start small and work through a couple of posts or even just once a week. And you’ll start to see an increase in blog traffic from organic searches.

I also suggest that you read the following articles to help you get a better handle on how to figure out what keywords you should be using and how to use the keyword planner:

Traffic Tip: Get 50% More Traffic with Simple 10 Minute SEO – this simplifies the on page SEO process for your blogs in a simple tutorial

7 Timeless SEO Strategies – this walks you through the basics of SEO that are simple and timeless strategies

Traffic Tip: Increase Website Traffic with this simple SEO strategy – this will walk you through step by step on how to use the keyword planner

Got a question?
