Why Consistency in Business is Your Friend

We live in a world of instant gratification and its hard to remember the ancient proverb:

“Slow and steady wins the race”

We have all heard the story of the tortoise and the hare where the tortoise challenges the hare to a race. The hare gets cocky thinking that there is no way he can loose.  He runs fast part of the way and falls asleep under a tree.  The tortoise keeps on his steady pace and passes the sleeping hare.  By the time the hare wakes up and realizes what has happened, it is too late and the tortoise  wins the race.

Its the same thing when it comes to building your business.  Consistency and doing the right things over and  over again on a regular basis will get you to where you want to be.

Consistency in Business = Success

I see this all the time when I’m working with clients.  They invest a lot of time and money in big ticket coaching programs where they are given the step by step process to build their business.  In the beginning they are excited to get started, then they get bored, frustrated that nothing is happening or simply overwhelmed.  Then they stop doing what they need to be doing on a regular basis to keep building their business and then wonder why they aren’t further along in building a successful business.

The most successful business people I see are ones who have a plan, get super focused and stick to their plan.  Yes they may hit a few bumps in the road or take a detour and when this happens, they pull up their bootstraps and forge ahead.

I’ve been in working with business and life coaches building their businesses for over 4 years now and in the corporate world for many years – I can tell you within a couple of months of working with someone if they have what it takes to build a successful business. It’s simple – Brilliance and talent alone don’t build a business alone, it takes a combination of steady work and consistency.

If you don’t have consistency, all the systems, products and branding will not work.

One of my favorite books on this subject is The Compound Effect:  Jump-start Your Income, Your Life, Your Success by Darren Hardy.  If you haven’t read this book I suggest grabbing a copy, I’ve pulled mine off the bookshelf and am reading it again!
