Key Takeaways

  • The most important part of video content is you, on camera. AI can’t replace that, and it shouldn’t.
  • The process is simple: plan the topic, outline, don’t script, record one take, clean it up.
  • Don’t let a robot make your videos. Going off script and telling your own stories is what makes your best videos perform.
  • For YouTube, AI writes the parts that take the longest by hand: titles, descriptions, timestamps and tags.

Creating video content with AI starts with one thing AI can’t do for you: showing up on camera. People want real. They want to see you talking. AI handles everything around the recording, so the only thing left for you is to talk.

When I started making videos, the recording was the easy part. Everything around it took forever: figuring out what to say, writing it all out, editing, then writing a title and description that would actually get found. AI changed all of that.

Do You Need to Be on Camera?

Yes. This is the most important part. People have to see you.

We’ve been making Todd’s videos since 2014. None of them are professional quality, and he gets thousands of views and calls every month from his YouTube content. My own simple, unedited reels are getting 2,300 views. You don’t need a fancy set or an over-edited video. You need to show up and talk about what you know. I wrote more about this in Raw and Unfiltered: Why Your Videos Don’t Need to Be Perfect.

Why Shouldn’t You Let a Robot Make Your Videos?

Creating video content isn’t about letting a robot make your videos, because a robot loses your energy. I’m adamant about this.

When I’m recording, I’ll often get a download from my brain and go off script. I’ll get to a point and just start telling a story, pulling from my own experience. Most often, those are my best-performing videos.

When you let AI make the video, or you just read from a script, there’s no room for that heart-centered download. That’s the part that makes your content really you, and it’s what resonates with your clients.

I do this all the time. When I come from “I” instead of just teaching, and I add stories and personality, my video content performs so much better.

How Do You Create Video Content With AI?

You create video content with AI in five steps:

  1. Plan the topic. Pick a topic tied to one of your offers. I walk through how I plan a month at a time in How to Build Your AI Content Calendar From Scratch.
  2. Outline. Have AI give you the hook, why it matters, the main point and how to do it, then add your own stories.
  3. Don’t script. Talk from the outline. When AI writes the whole script, it sounds like a press release, not like you. More on that in Effortless Video Scripts with AI: Outline, Talk, Done.
  4. Record one take. If you stumble, pause and keep going.
  5. Clean it up. Take out the filler words and stumbles, and get your transcript. That transcript becomes your blog post, email, social posts and shorts.

How Do You Make YouTube Videos With AI?

You make YouTube videos with AI the same way, with one extra step: let AI write the parts YouTube needs to find your video.

Once I have my transcript, I have AI write the title options, the description, the timestamps and the tags. Those used to take me as long as the video itself. Now they take minutes, and they come straight from what I actually said, so they match the video.

I also plan a long video and a short video for every topic. The long one goes on YouTube. The short one goes everywhere: YouTube, Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn.

What To Do Next

Make one video this week with AI doing the work around it.

  1. Pick one topic tied to one of your offers.
  2. Have AI outline it, then add your own stories.
  3. Record one take and clean it up.
  4. Give AI the transcript and ask for your title, description, timestamps and a short-form script.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I create video content with AI?

Plan the topic, outline, don’t script, record one take, and clean it up. AI helps with the plan and the outline, then turns your transcript into titles, descriptions, blog posts, emails and shorts. You do the talking.

How do I make YouTube videos with AI?

Record the video yourself, then give AI the transcript and have it write your title options, description, timestamps and tags. It’s faster, and it matches what you said in the video.

Do I need to be on camera?

Yes. It’s the most important part. People want real, and simple, unpolished videos of you talking build trust. Todd’s YouTube videos have never been professional quality, and they bring him thousands of views and calls every month.

Why shouldn’t AI make my videos for me?

Because it loses your energy. My best-performing videos usually come from going off script and telling a story from my own experience. A script or an AI-made video leaves no room for that.

Should AI write my video scripts?

Have AI write an outline, not a full script. Full AI scripts tend to sound stiff. An outline plus your own stories keeps the video sounding like you.
