This is one of my favorite books. And by no accident when I picked it up to read it this morning today’s chapter was all about being grateful when you’re feeling good and graceful when you are feeling bad. The gist of this is the even the seemingly happiest of people on this earth have their down-times, their disappointments and heartaches. How you handle those inevitable down-times is what makes the difference.
In my line of work, I get to work with and meet all kinds of Business and Life Coaches. Some of them are starting out and some of them are multimillion dollar successes. What I have learned is that where ever we are in our businesses, we all share the same highs and lows. Just because someone is super successful doesn’t mean that they feel any different from you or I!
What I learned from reading this chapter is that what separates the happy people from the not so happy people in life is how they handle the down-times. Happy and relaxed people are very grateful when things are going well for them. The key is that they understand that both positive and negative feelings come and go and that the lows are an inevitable part of living. Instead of fighting those feelings that are uncomfortable, they accept that these times are an inevitable part of life. They know that in time they will be happy again. Haven’t you heard the saying “what you resist will persist?!”
Take this with you: The next time you feel bad, instead of stressing out try to do the opposite and relax. Those feelings will pass away on to more happier ones soon!
