Are you guilty of hiding out and not playing big?
I am chuckling as I write this post because I’ve been called on the carpet by my coach for hiding out and not playing big in my business. I’m chuckling because she is the first coach I have had that as had the gumption to call me on it.
In actuality, it really isn’t funny. It’s kind of sad becaue I say I am all about making a difference in the lives of others and I am not stepping up to my personal mission.
I know I am not alone here either.
I suspect you may relate to this. Just this morning I was listening to Pat Flynn’s podcast and he expressed a similiar fear of getting in front of people too.
That made me feel better. And knowing that he pushed through those uncomfortable feelings to build a highly successful business.
I’m going to share with you how I am going to stop hiding out – please feel free to use any part of my list that may help you:
1. Networking:
Yes, I haven’t been networking and meeting people like I know I should. Networking is a must to. Maybe you will meet potential clients or maybe you won’t. It takes time, and I think one of the best things you can do is to join a group of like-minded individuals.
How I am going to stop hiding out in this arena is that I’m getting myself out of the house at least once a month by joining my local eWomen Networking group The group in Seattle is headed by an inspiring woman, Debbie Whitlock and just being in her presence is inspiring.
And the funny thing is that I went to the eWomen Meeting in Orange County in May and had a wonderful time, connected with some great people.
So what’s stopping me?
My mindset and I have decided that it is time for me to stop hiding out at home and get myself out the door.
2. Podcasting:
This has been on my list of projects this year and I keep puting it off. I truly think that my reluctance has been due to a fear of public speaking. I listened to Pat Flynn’s podcast episode #64 and game away with a great game plan for gettng mine going.
And, I’m reminding myself that I don’t have to tackle the entire project in a single week so I’m breaking it out into actionable steps and have committed to launching mine in September.
3. Webinars:
I have to admit that this is really scarey for me.
Like podcasting, this is on my list of projects for 2014. I had one scheduled for April 2014 and I admit it, I got cold feet and did not do the webinar. Yep, this is really uncomfortable for me. Which is funny for someone who has presented in front of CEO’s of a major corporation, trained groups, ran division meetings many times over my career. And yes, each time I was very uncomfortable at the time and I pushed through those feeling and did it.
So how I am going to stop hiding out is to do monthly training webinars so that I can help more people build their businesses. You’re going to see me put on my first live webinar at the end of September and continue through the end of 2014.
I’m committed to getting of my fear of webinars!
Have you done a webinar or a teleseminar? If not, you need to do one. This is a great way for you to reach and help more people. And, as an added bonus you can take your webinar or teleseminar and easily make it into a product.
4. Attend industry Events:
Like networking, attending industry events is a great way to meet new people, connect with influencers and potential clients. I haven’t attended an event in 2014 and that is a shame! I love going to events like this as I come away learning something new and a stack of business cards.
What was holding me back here was that I was making up excuses like I get overwhelmed at these events, who is going to do my work while I am gone. What I just learned while I was on my recent vacation was I CAN be away and my business won’t fall apart.
The great news is that I have one of these on my calendar for late August so I can check this off my list. I urge you to go to at least 2 industry events a year if possible. They are alot of fun!
5. Working with my coach
Since she was the one who told me I was hiding out in my group coaching program, I ‘m working with her to get over the thing that is holding me back from bigger successes in my business.
Namely my mindset.
Yes I have reinvented myself and accomplished so much this year, I’ll give myself credit for that. But I am still not playing as big as I want or should be in my business. And the number one thing holding me back and keeping me hiding is my mindset.
Like you I am committed to helping people succeed. And the only way I am going to make a bigger impact is to stop hiding out an step out in front of a wider audience.
Lots of people struggle with this, I’ve heard this from nearly every big name marketer that I ‘ve studied.
Let’s face it, we are all human and we all have fears.
What separates the winners from the losers is persistence and a refusal to let things like fear stand in the way. I’m chosing to be okay with with being uncomfortable so I can make a difference in the lives of others.
Are you? Let me know what stops you and are you committed to stop letting fear stand in your way?
Here’s to your success!
